Let’s answer the BIG question… What does South Carolina have to offer?

South Carolina is a prime hunting destination for our veteran’s and active-duty military. With the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and the Coastal Region to the East, the opportunities are endless to enjoy the great outdoors! Whether it’s bow/rifle hunting or any variety of fishing South Carolina has it to offer!

The coastal region contains salt marshes, bays, and estuaries from the grand Atlantic Ocean making Salt Water fishing very popular. Much of the Piedmont region is forested, and the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains soar to 3,560 feet at its largest peak. South Carolina also offers two mighty lakes, Lake Marion and Lake Murray, which offers a large amount of White Crappie, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Saugeye, Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish and Flathead Catfish on these waters.

South Carolina has a population of some 730,000 white-tailed deer. South Carolina has long seasons and areas of the state are open for archery and firearm hunting beginning in mid-August. This means South Carolina is one of the few states where rifle hunters have a good chance of taking a buck in velvet. Hunting can be done from a stand, as many prefer, but SC also allows deer hunts to be done with dogs in specific areas.

Duck hunting in South Carolina is about as good as it gets anywhere! Wood ducks are the most common in South Carolina, but you may also have luck with black ducks, gadwalls, mallards, ringnecks, and green-winged teal.

The state was one of the original release points of feral hogs in the United States, and wild hogs have spread with an estimated population of 150,000 found throughout most areas of South Carolina. Wild hogs are not protected in the state, and there is no closed season or bag limit on private land. This keeps the opportunity open for hunting hogs with our brothers and sisters in arms all year round!

South Carolina is an excellent destination for hunting Eastern wild turkeys. There is a generous bag limit of three gobblers per season and one of our team’s favorite seasons!

Our beautiful state also offers opportunities to hunt Black Bear in two regions, and the chance to hunt Alligators if chosen through the annual lottery drawing.

Team South Carolina could not ask for a better state to enjoy the great outdoors, and we are proud to continue providing opportunities to our veterans and service members throughout SC!
